Let me introduce Julia Winkler, a Swiss fashion designer and founder of the women’s fashion label studiowinkler. Julia is a winner of the award of the Swiss women’s magazine “Annabelle” and one of the five finalists of the “Designer for Tomorrow” award at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week 2014 in Berlin. Julia graduated from Berlin International University of Art for Fashion (ESMOD) and has a diploma with honors in Fashion Design and Pattern-Making. The designer is currently based in Berlin but often visits her native city of Zurich. Julia’s approach to design is known for its experimentalism, which is reflected in her six existing collections.
I got to meet Julia Winkler in person at the showing of the Spring/Summer 2016 “A Matter of Consequence” collection in Zurich. Inspiration for the SS16 collection draws from the combination of the Romantic sport of fencing and concrete poetry. Fencing, sport that Julia once practiced, gives the collection a strong and delicate shape at the same time. Concrete poetry, in its turn, has been liberated from romanticism by the designer.
I tried on several outfits and liked most of all the feminine details of the pieces, fabrics, which is mostly cotton and silk blend woven in England and the patterns. I found the pieces of the collection very classy and elegant.
You can purchase studiowinkler pieces directly from the studiowinkler online shop, as well from the shops GRIS Alliance des Créateurs Suisses and in concept store Opia in Zurich.
