Ballet Zurich – Anna Karenina

The Zurich ballet season 2016/2017 opened with the ballet Anna Karenina by Christian Spuck after the novel by Lew Tolstoy. The performance was accompanied by symphonic and chamber music by Sergei Rachmaninoff and Witold Lutoslawski.

Christian Spuck has brilliantly adapted Tolstoy’s novel as a ballet. His interpretation of Anna Karenina will even be premiered in Moscow soon. Christian Spuck emphasizes the fate of the heroine, but at the same time highlights important moments in the lives of other principal characters.

It is fascinating to watch and experience the destinies of Tolstoy’s protagonists through such vivid and light ballet moves. Being a big ballet and classic Russian literature enthusiast, I enjoyed this performance to the fullest. I was amazed by the carefully considered choreography, talented acting, beautiful costumes and music!

Anna Karenina will run at the Opera House Zurich till July 2017.
