Baselworld Watch and Jewellery Show 2017

The 100th anniversary of the most important show and premier event for theworld’s watch and jewellery industry Baselworld reaffirmed its status as the global trendsetting show. This year’s show was the focal point for more than 106’00 buyers from over 100 countries. Baselworld watch fair, remaining a very important communication platform, attracted more than 4,400 representatives of the press from print, television, radio and digital from 70 countries.

As Jean-Claude Biver, President of the LVMH Watch Division , CEO TAG Heuer and CEO Zenith, mentioned, “Baselworld is not just a show of the best Swiss watch brands, but more importantly the showcase of the entire Swiss and international industry. During eight days, people don ot only enter into the heart of the industry, but also feel the pulse of it, getting a vision of the future”. What makes Baselworld additionally indispensable is the show’s renown as a market mood and trend barometer, one can see how the trends are established and emerge and how they are interpreted by the brands.

Here are some Watch Trends of Baselworld 2017:

  • Vintage design: getting back to the old collections, remaking and reinventing iconic pieces from the past
  • Minimalistic designs: motto “less is more”
  • Slimmer and smaller cases
  • Smaller dials
  • Visible mechanics: the movement of the watches is showcased on the wrist
  • Smart watches
  • Combination of the sporty and classy looks in one
  • Rise of the watch brands from the offering affordable luxury segment

I enjoyed the show, was happy to discover the novelties of the Swiss watch and jewellery industry and attend press conferences. I was also honoured to be present at the Depeche Mode for Hublot concert and see how the watch brands collaborate with musicians, car makers and charity organisations.

Listening to the exhibitors and in agreement with the members of the different Committees, organisers of Baselworld have decided to reduce the duration of the show and adjust the prices accordingly because of the challenges industry is going through.
