DESCRIPTION:The Photobastei shows milestones in Hansruedi Giger’s (1940 – 2014) career from his beginnings with drawings in underground magazines and variations of the motifs characteristic of his erotic-morbid style “Atomkinder” (1963)\, “Biomechanoiden” (1969) and “Passagen” (1971-73). In his cycle of works “Biomechanoids” he anticipates the fusion of body and technology; in the work “Atomkinder” the fear of the extinction of mankind through nuclear war. \nIn “Passages” Giger refers to the trauma of birth and draws from it worlds of images that point far beyond individual experience to the abysses and dangers of modern society. \nThe exhibition is essentially based on the impressive collection of Caren and Jörg Czwikla. It is supplemented by loans from private collections in Zurich.

The festival will feature the German-Japanese pianist Alice Sara Ott\, whose poetic and soulful playing is falling in love with audiences and critics around the world\, “America’s leading baritone” Thomas Hampson\, the breathtakingly virtuoso accordionist Ksenija Sidorova\, the one and only Avi Avital\, the German violinist Veronika Eberle and the two brothers Adrien (viola) and Christian-Pierre la Marca (cello)\, who not only seduce the French press to superlatives such as “hero of the viola” or “French cello elite”. \nThe artistic directors of the festival\, Andreas Ottensamer (clarinet) and José Gallardo (piano)\, will lead through the concert evenings.

SUMMARY:On The Move - Ballet Zurich
DESCRIPTION:Christian Spuck will take over as director of the Staatsballett Berlin at the beginning of the 2023/24 season. This marks the end of an era for Ballett Zürich. Since 2012\, Christian Spuck has shaped Ballett Zürich as one of Europe’s leading ballet companies with many successful productions. After eleven years together\, he will bid farewell to Zurich and his company with a final choreography. The musical centrepiece is «Lontano»\, a famous piece by the Hungarian composer György Ligeti (1923-2006). The great themes of detachment\, distance and farewell\, which Ligeti’s composition addresses\, gain particular relevance in this new choreography in the context of Spuck’s farewell to Zurich and his entry into a new chapter of his life.
