Mode Suisse Edition 15

On February 4th 2019, the contemporary Swiss fashion designer show Mode Suisse, managed and produced by Yannick Aellen, presented its 15th edition at Migros Museum of Contemporary Art. The day’s agenda was full: a pre-show cocktail hour, catwalk, showroom and a shopping experience open to the public after the show provided great networking opportunities.

Here are some highlights of the 15thedition:

  • The Collective Swallow label from Basel started the catwalk showing their gastronomic-themed streetwear with lots of volume and great bags.
  • Amorphose – a label by Giancarlo Bello from Lugano –impressed with its strong feminine handcrafted sculptural pieces.
  • Garnison‘s menswear label from the French region of Switzerland combined its tailoring talents with contemporary streetwear character.
  • Nina Yuun (Basel, Seoul) presented a refined contemporary collection with her signature Asian silhouettes.
  • After Work Studio, the fashion studio from Basel founded by Karin Wüthrich and Matthias Fürst, skillfully combined the elegance of the modern woman with a sporty flair, adding Swiss-made knitwear pieces and amazing jewelry accessories.
  • Jacqueline Loekito from Basel placed the main emphasis on the liberation of the sexes and wowed with colors and extreme oversized shapes.
  • Rafael Kouto intrigued with his upcycled color-fusion of Africa and the West.

The Mode Suisse audience also saw collections of Mourjjan (Zurich, Mykonos), Mikael Vilchez/Forbidden Denimeries (Geneva) and students of HEAD – Genève on Zurich’s catwalk.

The lights, the music, the national and international models on the catwalk, the exciting pieces and messages they carried all made the 15th Mode Suisse uplifting and refreshing. I attended the show in the neon beige outfit from After Work Studio.
