La Prairie x Sabine Marcelis Art Basel 2023

Premiered at Art Basel in June 2023, the cobalt house, an immersive experience created by the award-winning dutch designer Sabine Marcelis, celebrates the 25th anniversary of the house’s iconic skin caviar luxe cream.

The Swiss luxury skincare house La Prairie invited the designer to interpret the signature cobalt blue jar and velvety cream in a larger-than-life interactive and sensorial design environment. The project, specially commissioned by La Prairie, also includes a limited-edition capsule skincare object, created by Marcelis to enrich the cream’s skincare ritual.

With The Cobalt House, Marcelis aimed to create an experience that transports guests to the world of Skin Caviar where design, beauty, and science come together.

The designer was inspired by the dialogue between the bold, cobalt blue glass packaging of the jar – the col- lection iconic colour inspired by the work of the feminist artist Niki de Saint Phalle in 1982 – and the generous, indulgent texture of the cream. The contrast of tine and touch was translated and brought to life in the design of “The Cobalt House”. Visitors wind their way though a vibrant cobalt glass-walled corridor that leads to a cosy, cream-coloured space within that features some of the designer’s signature pieces.
Presented within the Collectors Lounge at Art Basel, Sabine Marcelis’ Cobalt House will offer a true moment of indulgence, and a chance to discover the new Skin Caviar Luxe Cream together with a curated menu of the House’s Art of Perfection skincare treatments.

The new Skin Caviar Luxe Cream and the Sabine Marcelis limited-edition object of design are exclusively available for pre-order at the La Prairie Lounge in Art Basel, the newly openeded Maison La Prairie in Zurich and on, before they are globally launched in September.
