On a rainy day in April, the 18th to be precise, I had the chance to watch the traditional Zurich spring holiday of Sechseläuten from my seat in the Collana Bar and Caffe on Sechseläutenplatz, right in the heart of the action.
Just after the parade of the guilds, the highlight of the holiday was the burning of winter in the form of the Böögg – a huge snowman stuffed with explosives. According to tradition, the length of time between the lighting of the pyre and the explosion of the head of the Böögg predicts the weather: a fast explosion equals warm weather, whereas a long one means a rather cold summer. This year broke all records – the snowman burnt for 43:34 minutes. But let’s hope for the best:)
There was a great atmosphere in the cafe, everyone was enjoying the best view of the burning of the Böögg, drinking beer and eating “bratwurst”.
Collana Bar and Caffe, the new enterprise of the Commercio Group Zurich of restaurants and bars, has become a meeting point in the heart of Zurich. It is the perfect place for a lunch break, an event on just a cup of coffee on a large terrace. I had the pleasure to meet the CEO of Commercio Group Nicolas von Graffenried who personally greeted the honoured guests and guilds.
Collana Bar e Caffè is open Sun-Thur 9:00-24:00; Fr-Sat 9:00 – 2:00
